Finding Cheaper Auto Insurance in Long Beach

5 October 2024 · Updated 8 October 2026 · By The Barua Insurance team · CA Lic. #6003484

If your car insurance in Long Beach feels too expensive, you're not imagining it: premiums have risen across California in recent years. There's usually room to pay less, though. Here's what drives the price, how to bring it down, and how we help, whether your record is spotless or not.

What sets your premium

California's Proposition 103 makes three things count most: your driving record, the miles you drive each year, and your years of driving experience. Your vehicle, where it's parked and the coverage you choose matter too. In Long Beach, with commutes on the 405 and 710 and plenty of street parking, where in the city you live can also affect the price.

Ways to lower it

  • Compare carriers. The same driver can get very different prices from different carriers, so comparing is usually the most effective step.
  • Claim every discount you qualify for. Good driver (at least 20% under California law, if you qualify), multi-car, bundling with renters or home insurance, good student, and others depending on the carrier.
  • Match your coverage to your car. Higher deductibles lower the premium, and on an older car collision and comprehensive may not be worth it.
  • Update your mileage. If you drive less than you used to, say so.
  • Look at payment options. Many carriers offer monthly plans, and down payments differ between them.
  • Check the state program. If your income is limited and your record is good, California's Low Cost Auto Insurance Program (CLCA) may be an option.

Tickets, accidents or a DUI

A less-than-perfect record raises premiums, but it doesn't disqualify you. Carriers that specialize in non-standard insurance write policies for drivers with tickets, accidents and DUIs, and their prices vary widely. If the DMV requires an SR-22, the insurer files it with your policy; see SR-22 insurance. If you're eligible, traffic school can keep a one-point ticket confidential from insurers.

No license or a foreign license

Some carriers accept a foreign license, a passport or a matrícula consular, and you can often insure a car you own with a licensed driver listed on the policy. Insurance doesn't make it legal to drive without a valid license, though. Under AB 60, California issues licenses to residents who can't prove legal presence, and new residents are expected to get a California license within 10 days.

Registration and title transfers too

Besides insurance, our Long Beach office handles DMV paperwork: registration renewals, title transfers, out-of-state transfers and plates, without the DMV line. See DMV registration and title services.
